I went on a Roman walking tour around Winchester a couple of years ago. In Roman times Winchester was called Venta Belgarum meaning marketplace of the Belgae (a local tribe). If you come to Winchester looking for Roman ruins you may be disappointed I'm afraid, but I do recall on the walk that they thought these pillars in the Cathedral Close might be of Roman origin.

  3. I do, too. I walked past there most days but never thought to see them at that angle.

  4. Either way they certainly look the part. Over the centuries old bits of former buildings have often been reused.
Re cameras, these days most cameras become obsolete before they wear out. Mine was secondhand from a person in Kings Lynn who had a lot of gear but no idea how most it worked. The lenses tend to be the expensive bit, my camera came as body only, no lens. I am still learning, luckily I have a mate who is a very good photographer his stuff appears in The Times, Guardian, Telegraph, FT amongst others. I have recently got to the point where I have either sold pictures or been commissioned to do some photos by companies. This was not something that ever occurred to me when I first started the LDP 995 posts ago. Paul at Leeds in Yorkshire daily photography
