Pasty wars!

In the High Street near the Buttercross there are 2 pasty shops right next to eachother - Pasty Presto and West Cornwall Pasty Co. They both seem to do a good trade. West Cornwall do perhaps have the upper hand as they have outdoor seating!

  1. I went upstairs for lunch once at pasty presto, on a cold, busy Saturday and it was like being served by bad-tempered school dinner ladies!

  3. I have an old workmate who drives a truck for a well known Cornish pasty company in Cornwall, he is Cornish and proud of it. Here in Leeds we have several Cornish pasty shops, I have even bought the odd one.

  5. West Cornwall seems to be staffed by East European men mostly, no Cornish to be seen, but they're friendly!

They both do pasties with allsorts of fillings, very tasty!

  7. I've been meaning to thank you for your comments ans following St. Louis Daily Photo. My time just gets too crowded and I don't get to everything I want to do but I appreciate your notes.

My wife and I have been to the UK many times so we know what a pasty shop is. Most Americans would have no idea. Our equivalent would be having a McDonald's and a Burger King in the same block.

  10. So, I've learnt that pasties are not known throughout the world! They are savoury pastry filled cases, usually filled with meat and/or vegetables.
