St Cross

A photo of the Hospital of St Cross is England's oldest continuous almshouse, which houses 25 'brothers'. The Norman church dating from 1135 in the photo is all that remains of the original Hospital.

  1. Hello again. Having had a week of extra obligations and no time, I'm just getting caught up with all your posts. When one sees them all in a row one realizes what variety there is in Winchester DP.
You find interesting things to tell about every place, large or small.

  2. It looks like a rather nice place to live. Glad they still have places like this.

  3. I have just found your blog via ChrisJ ( Flamblogger). You are not far from us ( we are in the New Forest) and a day out in Winchester is always a pleasure. I like your idea of one or two photos each day, showing a different aspect of the city.

Dartford Warbler - I know lots of people who live in the New Forest, will drop by your blog & have a look

Leif - 1135 - it sounds like the time rather than a date, it's that long ago!
