The Square
This is The Square in Winchester which is a small pedestrianised area with shops and restaurants. These hardy people were sitting outside having a drink or meal. In the background is St Lawrence in the Square Church.
I think I really must be an introvert. I never like to sit outside at a restaurant. Too noisy. Too many other people around. Dust blowing on to my food etc. etc. Give me a quiet corner somewhere where I can talk quietly and enjoy my meal without distractions.
Which bit? To the right, or to the left of the photo? I was always surprised that cars could drive just past that bit, but I suppose lorries need to make deliveries.
I think possibly the area in front the the Old Vine and The Eclipse pub, so parts of Great Minster St, the Square & Market St to be closed to traffic during the day, some of the businesses there aren't happy about it, so am not sure if it's going ahead yet
I see - although I do think it needs it, I nearly got run over several times by cars speeding up there the wrong way. I suppose they could always deliver at night. There is no easy way into the cathedral grounds, though, because it is so old. I once suggested to the last precentor that they knock a new hole in the wall, and nearly gave him a heart-attack.

ReplyDeleteThis square does get very busy and I only like sitting outside when it's warm
ReplyDeleteI would love to be sitting on this square observing the area.
ReplyDeleteI used to take my son to that cafe on the right, it is lovely upstairs. In the warm!
ReplyDeleteIt's a nice area, they plan to pedestrianise even more of it.
