There is a random arch in the Cathedral grounds. I imagine it was part of something once, a wall perhaps?
The little dog to the left of the photo is mine!

That is fascinating. There has to be a story behind it. Sadly today we just don't have the time to research all the little mysteries life presents us with. I would love to do some digging about this.
ReplyDeleteHi little dog.
ReplyDeleteThe arch to nowhere, a mystery.
Have a good time while you are away.
How interesting. If you found this in the grounds of a country house you would think it was a folly, but this is the real thing. People have probably passed through this archway for centuries. Who knows where they were going, or why?
ReplyDeleteCute dog! This image reminds me of Chester, I suppose it has many similarities with Winchester. Enjoy Portugal!
ReplyDeleteI know that the cathedral used to be far larger on that side, but it does seem strange that someone felt strongly about allowing a gate to remain, and also to repair it.
ReplyDeleteI love finding this type of ruin, connects me to the past.
ReplyDeleteIt looks very old, it may be a portal that will take you to the past, like time travel.
ReplyDeleteYes, never enough time to look into everything!
