Fish Sculpture
Within the Dean Garnier Garden at the Cathedral is this fish sculpture which was created by Charles Normandale and installed in 2006. It depicts fish, the age old symbol for Christ rising from a rock and ascending into heaven.
I like the arty fish!:) I have noticed that some drivers over here, put a fish logo on the back of their car to tell that it is a christian driver. But it is not a common thing. I guess we soon will have "politics" advertised on the cars, election time coming up.
I suppose that, apart from the symbol of the cross, the fish is pretty much the only advertising symbol that british non-catholic christians have. I really like that statue, though, it is very pretty. I would like it to be even bigger than it is.
The whole garden is a bit too hidden from the public - if you go there and there is anyone else there already, you feel as if you are invading their privacy!
You're right it is a bit hidden away & there were teenagers kissing in the garden when I was there so I definitely felt like I was invading some privacy!

ReplyDeleteI like the sculpture, doesn't strike me as relgious looking, but I read about the meaning behind it in the Garden's leaflet.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful, but it seems hidden from the public.
