Where once there was an ice rink
I passed by the cathedral close where the ice rink had been up until a week or so ago. You can see the state of the grass that it was sat upon, but grass is pretty hardy and I bet before no time you'll hardly know it was there.

Judges bench
The Great Hall has been used as a court throughout the years. Sir Walter Raleigh was condemned to death here in 1603 (later reprieved). This is a 19th century judges bench which was used in the adjoining law courts.

Jane Austen's house
I have tried to get a photo of this Jane Austen's house for ages. Usually there is someone standing outside of it or a car parked there, granted this still isn't the best photo! It was here that the novelist Jane Austen, spent the last few weeks of her life. She had been living nearby at Chawton for several years, but in 1817 her health began to fail and she came to Winchester with her sister Cassandra to receive better medical care. However a few weeks later she died, and was buried at the Cathedral. The house is now a private home.

Broken?
I had heard the other day that the Buttercross had been damaged. I went down there myself and couldn't see anything, but I think I was looking at the wrong side. (Excuse photo quality it was taken on my phone)

She's back
I'm a bit slow off the mark, the statue of Queen Victoria has been back in The Great Hall since May, after being away up to London and the Royal Acadamy of Arts.
