Garden by the river
The photo doesn't capture it too well but there are a number of houses that back onto the River Itchen and have gardens down to the river bank.

Itchen Way
I've already posted a couple of photos from a recent walk along the Itchen Way, and here's another. The Itchen Way is a foothpath that follows the River Itchen from its source in the north near Hinton Ampner, through Winchester and down to the mouth of the river at Southampton Water

City Mill
Another place that had free entry over the Heritage Day weekend was Winchester City Mill. It's located on a site that has been used for milling flour since Saxon times. The current building dates from 1743 and remained in use as a mill until the early 20th century. For a while the building was a Youth Hostel, but in 2004 the National Trust took over the building and resumed grinding flour again which is available for sale.

Winnall Moors
At the back of North Walls Recreation Ground is one of the entrances to Winnall Moors. Unfortunately dogs aren't allowed any further than this. The Itchen River runs through the Moors and the path leads on to surfaced paths, boardwalks and bridges, so you can enjoy the wetland without your wellies! The project to restore the Moors began in September 2008 to develop a nature reserve here and is still ongoing.

Dean's Garden
In the Dean's Garden there is a stream which is a tributary of the River Itchen, with these interesting large plants growing next to it. Does anyone know what they are?

North Walls
This is the North Walls Recreation Ground, it is my 'scenic route' that I take on the way back home from the supermarket. It has rugby and cricket pitches, tennis courts, kids playground, skatepark, canoe club, leisure centre, lots of green spaces and the River Itchen flows through it.
