Blanc ou Blanche?

Spot the grammatical error here - should that not be Maison Blanche seeing as 'maison' is feminine? Although as I understand it this patisserie here is linked to Raymond Blanc, who also has Brasserie Blanc here in Winchester, so I'm certain it's deliberate!

  1. I think also people here would think they were run by that nice lady Blanche. I quite envy you this patisserie, we have a Brasserie Blanc into which I have never been but I would frequent a patisserie here in Leeds.

  2. I have a horrible feeling that that mis-spelled place is where my fish and chip shop used to be!

Yes, perhaps it was sign-writer error and Raymond Blanc hasn't been down to inspect it yet!

  3. Ah well... most people probably won't recognize the error. They'll be too busy eying the croissants and such!

  5. Janerowena I think you're right, this must have been where the fish & chip shop was as there's not one that end of town, infact the closest proper fish & chip shop is down in St Cross!

  6. It used to be painted a lovely shade of blue, and I think it was called Neptune's fish bar. or something like that. Yes, it is the same place.

We didn't live all that far from the one in St.Cross, there was a real furore when it opened as all in the vicinity complained about the potential smell and litter. I was really pleased that it was there, not that we used it all that often. Until it opened, everyone at our end of town had to buy fish and chips from a chinese restaurant in Jewry Street!

  7. There's a City Fish Bar in Jewry Street, I don't really think of it as a fish & chip shop, it looks more like a fast food/burger/kebab place although have never tried it, must get a photo!
