Arch

There is a random arch in the Cathedral grounds. I imagine it was part of something once, a wall perhaps?

The little dog to the left of the photo is mine!

*** I am away on holiday now for 2 weeks so have scheduled these posts to appear (hopefully!). Thanks for any comments & sorry if I don't respond straightaway. For my nearest location see Lisbon city daily photo and head south! ***

  1. That is fascinating. There has to be a story behind it. Sadly today we just don't have the time to research all the little mysteries life presents us with. I would love to do some digging about this.

  2. Hi little dog.
The arch to nowhere, a mystery.

Have a good time while you are away.

  3. How interesting. If you found this in the grounds of a country house you would think it was a folly, but this is the real thing. People have probably passed through this archway for centuries. Who knows where they were going, or why?

  4. Cute dog! This image reminds me of Chester, I suppose it has many similarities with Winchester. Enjoy Portugal!

  5. I know that the cathedral used to be far larger on that side, but it does seem strange that someone felt strongly about allowing a gate to remain, and also to repair it.

  7. It looks very old, it may be a portal that will take you to the past, like time travel.
