Cathedral View

The view from St Giles Hill of the cathedral as the sun was going down.

  1. It looks like a huge place. I wonder if it is well attended these days? Some large churches have fallen on hard times over here and old churches have been sold. Some smaller ones are being made into homes. The faithful have all fled the hard benches.

  2. It's visited a lot by tourists paying about $10 for the priviledge - it's free if you say you are going in to pray, I'm not sure whether they have religious police in there to check whether you have crossed the line from praying to looking around!

  3. Pray if you don't want to pay.
Pay if you don't want to pray.
That's fair enough. Thanks for visiting.

  5. I keep imagining that one of my relatives might have walked the area in the 1700's and one of their ancestors (and a distant relative) might still be seeing the same views I am on your photo blog.

  6. That is funny to think some would cheat to see inside a church. And what Abraham Lincoln said is a nice way to put it "The faithful have all fled the hard benches". lol
I think this photo would also make a beautiful painting.

  7. Becky - A great way of putting it!

Larry - I'm sure they did/do, a lot in Winchester has not changed at all for many years

  9. Must be grand living close to that cathedral and hearing the church bells! She's a beauty! How about a look inside, too?
