The Square

This is The Square in Winchester which is a small pedestrianised area with shops and restaurants. These hardy people were sitting outside having a drink or meal. In the background is St Lawrence in the Square Church.

  1. I think I really must be an introvert. I never like to sit outside at a restaurant. Too noisy. Too many other people around. Dust blowing on to my food etc. etc. Give me a quiet corner somewhere where I can talk quietly and enjoy my meal without distractions.

  2. This square does get very busy and I only like sitting outside when it's warm

  4. I used to take my son to that cafe on the right, it is lovely upstairs. In the warm!

  5. It's a nice area, they plan to pedestrianise even more of it.

  6. Which bit? To the right, or to the left of the photo? I was always surprised that cars could drive just past that bit, but I suppose lorries need to make deliveries.

  7. I think possibly the area in front the the Old Vine and The Eclipse pub, so parts of Great Minster St, the Square & Market St to be closed to traffic during the day, some of the businesses there aren't happy about it, so am not sure if it's going ahead yet

  8. I see - although I do think it needs it, I nearly got run over several times by cars speeding up there the wrong way. I suppose they could always deliver at night. There is no easy way into the cathedral grounds, though, because it is so old. I once suggested to the last precentor that they knock a new hole in the wall, and nearly gave him a heart-attack.
