Favourite part of town

I think my favourite place in Winchester has got to be the cathedral, particularly sitting outside it in the sunshine (not that often recently!). Even if you are in no way religious purely as a building or part of history you cannot fail to be impressed by it.

  1. A beautiful picture and a beautiful building. I know the old song "Winchester Cathedral" (by the Beatles???)Does the song refer to this I wonder?

  5. Hi Chris - I think there's only 1 Winchester Cathedral so it must be this one in the song!

  6. Such an impressive cathedral! We used to live across the street from a beautiful catholic church - I miss hearing the church bells! Nice snap for theme day!

  7. Ahh! That's my favorite part of Winchester too! I've spent many days on the Cathedral Green eating a crunchy baguette filled with coronation chicken. Beautiful shot! with a lot of memories!

  8. While the catchy Beatles tune plays in my head, I face my ignorance and admit this is the first time I've seen the cathedral of Winchester.
It's gorgeous, and you captured it in a beautiful crisp winter light.

    Cheers,
    Eleonora

  9. Welcome to Winchester Eleonora! And welcome back Lori - you're right, it's a very popular place to sit on the green and watch the world go by.

Thanks all for dropping by my post!

  10. Beaufiful and very British to me. I also expect inspector Lynley or the other one who lives in a tiny village where dozens of murders take place, to pop up any minute.

  11. Thanks Ken

Ineke - that must be Midsomer Murders (Inspector Barnaby) - it's very dangerous in our little villages!!
