Mondrian

In the Cathedral Close is this 1966 painted bronze sculpture by Dame Barbara Hepworth called Construction Crucifix a Homage to Mondrian. The red symbolizes the sun, while the white stands for the moon. The yellow circle stands for the head of Christ and, perhaps, a halo.

  1. She may have been a Yorkshire lass, but I do not get this kind of art, never have, never will.

  2. To be honest it's not really my cup of tea either!

  3. Glad you explained it. At first glance it reminded me of a guillotine. Oi

  4. We hadn't a clue what it was when we first saw it, until I heard my daughter being told off by an irate dog-walker for sitting on it! Once I had had a good look at it, I thought that was the best purpose for it.

My young son was taught to play croquet on that lawn. I used to park my car to the right of it. Lovely memories, thank you.
