City Church

There are many churches in Winchester, and eventually I'll try to photograph them all. This is the City Church in Jewry Street. I believe that it is a pentecostal type church, their website mentions 'speaking in tongues' as part of their beliefs, which is something that seems very alien to me, but I'm not here to judge! They also have a church rifle and pistol club, which is also quite unusual! The building the church is housed in is called Century House, it was originally a bank and was built around 1925.

  1. Well, the building looks pretty unchurchlike.
I'm assuming you didn't venture inside.

  3. Not a very churchy looking church -- but it doesn't have to be , I suppose. I don't not believe in speaking in tongues. I know quite a number of people who do. I respect them, but for me, it's more important to live a life that is pleasing to God as much as I can, humanly speaking. And that's quite a task right there!

  4. Good to see a nice looking building put to use. I too do not get the speaking in tongues bit but each to their own I guess.

  5. It's good that buildings are used, even if not for the business they were built. Don't worry about the speaking in tongues--we're not contagious!
