Model trains

Celebrating 125 years of the Great Western Railway, this model railway exhibition was taking place at the cathedral yesterday. I remember my brother had a Hornby trainset as a kid and had it on a wooden base and began building up a whole little town around it with miniature trees, people, animals, houses etc. I wonder if kids still do that these days?

  1. Actually, Hubby and Otterboy worked on an HO scale layout and an N-scale layout up until a few months ago when the 15-year-old outgrew it. Apparently, there are still many that build trains and layouts, as he got quite a lot of money for some of his stuff on trademe (ebay type of website).

  2. Fun! I went through the model train phase when I was little. Still remember the acrid smell of the smoke pellets in the toy locomotive.

  3. I have a feeling not as many kids play with toy trains. But I bet it's a fun hobby!

  4. My OH built a wonderful train set with scenery when the boys were young. I think he enjoyed it more than they did!
