New Bishop of Winchester

Downing Street announced yesterday that the next Bishop of Winchester will be the Reverend Canon Tim Dakin who is 53 and is currently head of the Church Mission Society. He'll be consecrated as the 97th Bishop of Winchester in January and assume the role in Spring 2012. Winchester's previous bishop, the Right Reverend Michael Scott-Joynt, retired in May after 16 years.

As I mentioned in a previous post when a new Bishop of Winchester is on his way to his enthronement in the Cathedral, he first comes to the tiny church of St Lawrence be presented to the Mayor, clergy and citizens, definitely a photo opportunity for next year!

  3. I agree with Jane! He seems like a nice chap. I didn't realise that Downing Street got involved at bishop level, it's like an Anthony Trollope novel.

  4. So this Bishop will live at Wolvesey Castle?
And what a lovely thatched roof cottage and big too.
    Just catching up.

  6. No, the bishop will live at the Bishop's Palace, in just a wing of it, but it is right next door to Wolvesey Castle.

  7. That is a very good portrait! And I am always very impressed when a photograph has been taken of someone with glasses and there is no glare on them. Do you have a special trick for that?

  8. Yes, he's pretty youthful looking as bishops go! Janerowena's right, they wouldn't make him live in the ruins! And Rachel sorry no tips, this isn't actually my photo - it's a professional one that was distributed.
