It's chip week!

All this week is chip week (that's 'fries' to our American friends!). I must say that Winchester lacks a proper central chip shop (sorry, but I am far too lazy to go all the way to St Cross for my chips!) I like chips, with lots of salt and vinegar, but I hardly ever have them to be honest. When stopped by some tourists in town and asked where the nearest chip shop was the only place I could think of was this place in Jewry Street...

  2. I though there was a fish shop in St, Georges Street, opposite Naomi House.... or has it suffered the "To Let" Cancer?
The BEST fish & Chips is in Harestock, BTW :)

Nice photo, I love the look of some of the shops in Jewry street, and this is one of them.

    1. Oh my god, you are totally right! Of course there's one in St Georges Street!! I'd completely forgotten about it! I'm off round there now to get a photo! Thanks for reminding me. And I must make an effort to come out of the centre to Harestock, Weeke, Teg Down, Badger Farm...etc!

  3. The one in St. Cross is far, far nicer! No drunks late at night, for a start, or homeless men begging for the scraps from the shelter across the road. I can't remember one in St. Georges Street. We used to drive back to St. Cross from Oram's Arbour once we had moved, to go there. Not very often, maybe two or three times a year, but always after Bonfire Night.

    1. You're right, Jewry Street is a popular road for nights out and drinking, followed probably by chips & a kebab!

  4. I have very few dislikes when it comes to food, one being never eat anything that moves around in its own little house like cockles. Another is never eat at a place that does fish and chips or kebabs, pizza, curry or indeed anything other than just fish and chips.
