Willow Tree

It's open, it's closed, it's opening again soon. I have featured this pub before last year and noticed at Christmas that the pub had closed down and then later a couple of the windows had been boarding up - it wasn't looking good at all. I'm not quite sure whate happened but apparently the pub is now set to reopen next month, with the 3rd set of tenants in a year.

  1. Running a pub these days appears to be and probably is pretty difficult under the current recession. Location is I think more important now for small businesses than ever before. I wish them every success.

  2. Fingers crossed it proves to be a successful venture this time... third time lucky as they say!

  3. Maybe people don't like crossing the road to get to it? It was struggling when I was there - they were offering cookery courses for adults and children about eight years ago, and that didn't last. It does make you wonder why some pubs in Winchester survive and others don't.

  4. Yes Janerowena, you're right, this pub is in a reasonable location, by the river, but slightly out of the centre, perhaps those living nearby don't walk down to it? Perhaps there's just too many other pubs around that people prefer, who knows.
